R&D PROJECTS REFERENCES
that our experts worked on
KRAKEN (The all-in-one hybrid manufacturing machine – Horizon 2020 Project 723759)
KRAKEN is an EU funded project that has developed an automated, robotic machine for hybrid multi-material manufacturing combining both subtractive and novel additive technologies. Capable of producing parts of up to 20-metre long, the KRAKEN machine has automatically interchangeable additive and subtractive heads, the capacity to achieve high quality and accurate results including internal and difficult-to-reach areas, and effective control over thermal stress and deformation.
NEXES (Next generation Emergency Services – Horizon 2020 Project 653337)
The NEXES Research and Innovation Action aims to research, test and validate the promising integration of IP-based communication technologies and interoperability into the next generation emergency services, so that they attain increased effectiveness and performance. Empowered by smartphones with cameras, messaging and internet-based applications connecting to social media, citizens expect emergency services to use the same technologies. However, this is not the case. NEXES innovates the approach to the dynamics between emergency services and citizens, allowing (i) the use of total conversation capabilities in emergencies, including social media, to the benefit of citizens, including those with disability or special needs (ii) the exploitation of improved location information to rapidly and effectively identify and locate the caller and the incident site and (iii) the leverage of Internet-enabled connectivity to enhance interoperability and shared awareness among emergency services, to the benefit of a more secure society.
AEOLIX (Architecture for EurOpean Logistics Information eXchange – Horizon 2020 Projects 690797)
By enabling low-complexity and low cost connectivity of local ICT platforms and systems and thereby scalable, trusted and secure exchange of information, AEOLIX will improve the overall competitiveness of goods transport in the supply chain, while simultaneously targeting sustainability from environmental, economic and social perspectives. Although there is a proliferative development of logistics-related data stores, information channels, information management systems and data mining facilities, with both international and intermodal focus, this multitude of solutions exhibits a high degree of fragmentation, due to differences in user requirements, data models, system specification and business models. This legacy situation severely hampers the optimal use of logistics-related information. To overcome this fragmentation and lack of connectivity of ICT-based information systems for logistics decision making, AEOLIX will establish a cloud-based collaborative logistics ecosystem for configuring and managing (logistics-related) information pipelines.
SWARMS (Smart and Networking Underwater Robots in Cooperation Meshes -ECSEL Project 662107)
The primary goal of the SWARMs project is to expand the use of underwater and surface vehicles (AUVs, ROVs, USVs) to facilitate the conception, planning and execution of maritime and offshore operations and missions. This will reduce the operational costs, increase the safety of tasks and of involved individuals, and expand the offshore sector. SWARMs project aims to make AUVs, ROVs and USVs further accessible and useful, making autonomous maritime and offshore operations a viable option for new and existing industries. One of the project activities involved a demonstrator at the Black Sea.
MITSU (Next Generation Multimedia Efficient, Scalable and robust delivery Celtic Plus Project C2012/1-5)
The objective of MITSU (next generation MultImedia efficienT, Scalable and robUst Delivery) is to study and develop the next generation of multimedia streaming systems to be used over wireless networks. Market opportunities and pressure are pushing toward a very fast deployment of video solutions that are not interoperable together and that imply an increasing processing complexity. Video systems are entering into a new age where contents will have to be delivered to the user whatever the device or network he/she is using (i.e. with the network he/she is also currently connected to).
